Hi im thinking of getting into molding glass but i have a few questions first

What are the basic tools i will need keeping in mind i dont have room for a kiln.

Also i actuelly just started to get into glass because i work in a glass factory and was wondering if i could use the glass from work we shape and temper everything from basic clear glass to bomb resistant and i can get free 12/12 panes or even smaller/larger pieces that broke

And if i can use glass from work do i need to worry about heating and using tinted and mirror pane glass

Thank you for any help or feed back

Hi Dark13, thanks for your post. No doubt, you'd be able to use your scrap glass. It might be difficult to mix it with other glass, but by itself it may work well. If you could somehow find the Coeficient of Expansion of the glass, that would help. Then, you could match it to other glass of the same COE if you'd like to. The COE would also indicate what type of torch you will need. Glass with a low COE (hard glass or boro, COE 33) requires a propane/oxygen torch. Soft glass with a COE of 104 can be worked with a lampworking propane only torch or also a propane/oxygen torch.

To get a better idea of what you'd need, you may wish to visit our website. The address is below. We have a wide list of free to watch Howto Videos and written tutorials to help you get started. Youtube also has many more videos on lampworking. When you watch our videos, this will bring you to Youtube where you can watch many others.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to send me a note. I'd be happy to help. Welcome to lampworking, and I wish you the best of luck.
